Day Trip to Sardona – a UNESCO World Heritage Site

Description

A day trip to the Sardona tectonic arena offers unique insights into the history of the formation of the Alps. The innovative FlemXpress gondola provides visitors with a convenient way to get from the town of Flims to Segnes mountain station – the ideal starting point for hiking through the splendors of the UNESCO world heritage site.

Before the trip up the mountain, Restaurant Ella at the valley station offers a “Kaffi & Gipfeli” (coffee and croissant) for an energy boost. A Graubünden caramelized walnut tart completes the menu. Walking sticks and maps are available free of charge at the Flims mountain railway ticket office.

At the top, the Sardona visitor pavilion provides information on the geological processes that led to the formation of the Alps, while between June and October at the weekends, GeoGuides impart interesting facts about the natural history of the landscape.

Good to know:
The first gondola ascends the mountain at 8:30 AM. The last gondola back down to the valley departs at 6 PM.
